What You Need To Know About Boxing and Muay Thai Before You Train

When done properly, both Boxing and Muay Thai are a full body workout—legs, core, back, shoulders, and arms as well as a cardiovascular workout.

Upon hearing the words “boxing or kickboxing” visions of Rocky, loose teeth, and bloody noses sometimes pop into the head. But when you finally mustered the courage to take your first class, you’ll be totally surprised. It isn’t gritty and filled exclusively with pro-athletes like you would imagined, but inviting, a ton of fun, and a great workout.

So if you’re feeling hesitant about slapping on some gloves, here’s some things you should know before you take your first class:

  • Enjoy Your Training
  • Boxing and Muay Thai are not just Sports, they are Communities
  • Be Ready For A Total Body Workout
  • Get To Class Early, Especially If It’s Your First One
  • During Class, You’re Going To Have To Be Very Present
  • After Class, You’re Probably Going To Be Very Sore
  • You Don’t Have To Punch or Kick Anyone
  • Don’t Go All Out With Your Punches, Practice Technique
  • Get Ready To Let It All Out
  • Drink Lots Of Water
  • Control Your Breathing
  • Practice, Practice & Practice
